Ajay Nigam is a Consultant Ear, Nose & Throat Surgeon based primarily at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Blackpool. He is also Clinical
Director of the ENT and Maxillofacial Directorate and Chairman of the Head and Neck Cancer Site Specific Group for Lancashire and South Cumbria. He is also consults and operates at Fylde Coast Hospital, Blackpool where he is a member of the Medical Advisory Committee.
Particular Interests
He has a particular interest in the following ENT conditions and operations: endoscopic sinus surgery, rhinoplasty (functional and cosmetic), nasal allergy, management of tumours involving the head and neck region, skin cancer of the face, salivary and thyroid gland disease, hoarseness, swallowing disorders and childhood ENT infections. He has published over 25 research articles on various aspects of ENT surgery in scientific journals and has given presentations at meetings of the Royal Society of Medicine, The Otolaryngological Research Society and the Midland Institute of Otology. He actively participates in teaching medical students and junior doctors.
Training
He initially trained in General Surgery following junior training posts in General Surgery, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Cancer Surgery (Royal Marsden Hospital). Mr Nigam entered higher surgical training in all aspects of Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery, initially at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge and later in Leicester, West Midlands and Newcastle upon Tyne. He was awarded the TWJ Fellowship to gain experience at Groote Schuur Hospital, Cape Town in 1992 and was appointed Consultant in ENT and Head & Neck Surgery Surgery at Blackpool Victoria Hospital in 1996.
